I am a 26-year-old that works as a games journalist, so I'm primarily only free during evening hours (my time zone is Mountain Standard Time).I've done a decent amount of roleplay before, though I've only been playing FFXIV for a year and a half or so. radiant aegis. Born at a small homestead located near, but outside of, the Ul'dahn city walls, Ranaeus called the Thanalan desert and its grand city-state home for almost his entire life. He was raised by his mother and Flamesman father for several years until he returned from daily chores one evening to find both brutally slain by an unknown party. Still only a boy and completely alone, he stumbled into Ul'dah frightened, desperate, and traumatized.A good-natured blacksmith from the Sapphire Avenue Exchange markets took him in, offering a roof to sleep under and food to nourish him in exchange for apprentice work. Many commonfolk in the city were also sympathetic to his plight as they knew of his father and his service, and treated him with kindness. Ranaeus vowed to repay it somehow, and as soon as he was of the proper age, he scraped together every gil he had to buy a gambeson, helmet, and blade. He joined the Gladiator's Guild, first, and eventually the Immortal Flames — ready to defend the city that had taken him in.Ranaeus was fiercely dedicated, growing to the rank of Captain in the Flames and serving as one of Raubahn Aldynn's closest confidants. He even joined the order of Ul'dah's stalwart paladins, though he continued to fight on the frontlines of the war against the Garlean Empire rather than waste away guarding the Royal Promenade. Following the conflict's conclusion, however, he would eventually leave the Flames and offer his services to the realm — and the star — at large.

Ranaeus harbors a great love for Ul'dah after what its people did for him. However, he has grown to fiercely resent the city's aristocracy for its disdain and cruelty towards refugees and paupers, for he came from such a position himself. Thus, his decision to roam the lands was born of desire for new purpose — a search that's led him to the good-natured and life-saving folk of the Malaguld Medical clinic found in the Empyreum of Ishgard.He has also chosen to move residence from Ul'dah to Ishgard, primarily to be closer to his newfound comrades but also because he sees the city and the reforms it's gone through in the aftermath of the Dragonsong War as a beacon of hope for Ul'dah's future.In recent months, Ranaeus has gradually embraced a darker side within him, taking up the greatsword and vowing to deliver righteous justice in cases where his radiant aegis and conventional approaches do not suffice.Having grown up almost entirely without his own blood and having lost his adoptive father figure before the war's end, Ranaeus views his closest allies, comrades, and friends as his "found family." He will do anything to protect them, though he constantly grapples with the fear that he may not be strong enough to do so when the time comes.

Due to the circumstances of his childhood, Ranaeus has developed a great love for Ul'dah — even if the current state of it frustrates him deeply. He is often found there, either relaxing in the Quicksand, walking the streets, or showing newcomers to the city around. If you're lucky, he might even give you a tour of the entire city-state.

Perhaps you can establish a rapport over shared experiences?song and dance. Having spent countless evenings watching and listening to performers in the Quicksand, Ranaeus has developed a fondness for song and dance. Unless distracted significantly, he will typically applaud bards and dancers, and may even approach or speak up to offer a tip, words of encouragement, or praise. He's even become quite adept at playing the guitar himself, though you won't find him dancing without encouragement from people he knows and is comfortable with.contract work.
